Anthropocosmic is a devised work of experimental mixed-media theatre created by Thomas Mayer and Niall Fallon. Combining elemental characters, object work, and relational movement with live music, soundscapes, projection, and live camera work, the piece explores the quiet mundanity of life through familiar, almost archetypal characters, before expanding into ritualistic, mythological, and cosmic landscapes.
Moving fluidly between the everyday and the absurd, the work emerged from an ongoing performative investigation into the relationship between the modesty of the performers own roots and the pull of larger, fantastical worlds. Two contemporary men in a room, armed with a guitar and a keyboard, attempt to express an inarticulate longing for something greater, something spiritual. The tension between the ordinary and the transcendent, and the tragic yet modest beauty that arises from this struggle, lies at the heart of the piece.
