Karaoke Mic Bike

A mobile karaoke setup, activating public space as a platform for connection and self-expression.

Because… why not?

Simple ideas are often the most fun. Karaoke + bike = Karaoke Mic Bike.

It rolls unexpectedly into public spaces, inviting passersby into spontaneous singing encounters. Fully equipped with battery, screen, speakers, microphones, and a growing multilingual songbook, it can transform any the street into a stage within moments. And when the karaoke party ends, the bike just rolls on and starts another one somewhere else.

Since summer 2024, this project has helped me connect with people from all walks of life across the city. It’s one of the more awkward and unnecessary things I’ve done, and that’s kind of the point. The project simply creates a low-stakes, high-impact invitation to be seen, heard, and a bit silly together.

I like it so much that I made a music video for it (Shabangaroo!). You can watch it below.

A mobile karaoke rig activating public spaces as a platform for connection and self expression.

Karaoke Mic Bike is a mobile performance platform that brings an amplified, participatory stage to public space. Built from a cargo bike, a karaoke setup, and an evolving set of props and multilingual songs, the project invites passersby into spontaneous singing performances. Through repeated runs and incremental refinements, the bike transforms awkwardness into connection, generating video documentation, small-scale financial support, and a playful infrastructure for ongoing public experiments.
